How do you pretend, what tools do you use to get visual look you want?
i will start off
i use belts to hold my legs in place, then use bondage tape to get a very tight hold to where my legs will fall asleep, after I will wrap in ace bandage to get the aesthetic look.
I pretended a lot with fully functional non-amputee prosthetics. It was a very valuable experience that significantly helped me prepare for the real deal.
It wasn't cheap but considering the extreme irreversible result of what needed to be done it was worth every bit of money spent to be absolutely certain of my decision and best prepared
I do like the stubbies as well and used to pretend with them. Unfortunately it will be rather hard to find a surgeon to do surgery. While I think I pretty much accepted my Biid, I more or less also accepted the difficulties of finding a surgeon. For me the pretending works as a therapy and the results, at times, can be quite good (for me).
So, you told your wife. Quite a risk, since it might be hard for somebody who does not feel it herself to understand. And it can also feel very difficult for her, not being able to tell this to other people. Although she seems to accept and feel ok with it! That is really great, because it means you will be able to maximize the therapeutic effects (if it works for you) of pretending. Is it difficult for her, or can she cope quite good with it? I think that is a very important step in the process.
Another thing important, I think, is to be in contact with other people dealing with this issue...

I just push my curled left hand into the socket of an old LBE prosthetic arm I have and use for pretending. The hand goes up to the very end with ease (I have small hands and thin forearms).
As for the left leg, I use a ski boot to simulate the weight and fixed ankle joint of a BK prosthesis.
It was a risk but it was a well worth it risk because before this covid19 broke out we were both on the same page with everything with doing our research and trying to find a surgeon to perform the amputation.. It did take he getting adjusted to the idea of that and tried to understand but showing her I was able to do a lot of my daily tasks while pretending showed her that there wouldnt any difference in my day to day.
So then did it change when the Covid 19 broke out? Honestly although I have always used the word: "pretending" as well, I think we should refrain from it and call it body therapy or something like that. I guess with the current outlook on society (non) acceptance on Biid, we might as well end up with permanent body therapy... Or are you already there?
